Primary Purpose

This position provides clerical and administrative support to the Societies Accountant. 

Key Accountabilities:

a.  Accounting
  1. Creating and entering the sales summaries for 11 companies run by the societies
  2. Creating invoices for 11 companies run by the societies
  3. Creating and entering monthly and yearly journal entries for accruals. inventory and  amortization
  4. Entering invoices for the 11 companies
  5. Entering expense reimbursements for the 11 companies
  6. Print cheques for the 11 companies
  7. As needed attend meetings with the societies’ accountant Initially taking minutes and working up to conducting the meetings in the absence of the societies accountant

    b. Provide support for audit preparation.  Includes account reconciliations and working paper creation

    c. Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

Education:

Basic to intermediate accounting knowledge with at least 2 college level accounting courses.

Experience:

1-2 years’ experience with data entry, accounts payable, month end closings and account reconciliations.

 

 

Technical:  intermediate user for Microsoft Excel, basic user for Word and Outlook.  Previous eperience utilizing accounting software required.

The ideal candidate would have the ability to work in a team environment, to meet deadlines, be committed to operational excellence, have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to maintain confidentiality.   

Level of Responsibility:

High level of accuracy for data input provides financial information and feedback for student executives.

Decision-Making Authority:

May have to make some limited decisions regarding expense classification.

Physical and Sensory Demands:

There may be some distractions depending on when in the term.    A high level of attention to detail is required when doing reconciliations and entering data into the accounting system. 

Working Environment:

This is an office based position within a dynamic student environment with student management changing every term and therefore with changing goals and strategies to be implemented each term.
