Accounting Clerk/Receptionist

Primary Purpose

This position acts as the organization’s receptionist and is the first point of contact for all visitors to the Federation of Students.  This position provides clerical and administrative support to the over 40 departments of the Federation of Students.

Position Requirements

Education:

Basic  accounting knowledge.

Experience:

Previous experience with data entry, cash handling and office reception and administration. 

Technical:  basic user for Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.  Previous experience utilizing a computerized point of sale terminal and accounting software would be an asset.

Nature and Scope

Interpersonal Skills:

Social and outgoing, ability to maintain calm and professionalism, meet deadlines, committed to operational excellence.  A team player with excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to maintain confidentiality.

Outstanding customer service skills, ability to effectively work within a team atmosphere and some conflict management skills would be an asset.  Typical contacts include but are not limited to:   other full time staff for clarification and to provide support, students and other visitors to provide information.

Level of Responsibility:

maintain a welcoming office atmosphere, accuracy of data input and provide information to students.  The position provides mostly co-worker support.  There is no direct supervision of others.

Decision-Making Authority:

Input into decisions regarding job responsibilities.  May have to make some limited decisions regarding referring student requests to other departments on campus.

Physical and Sensory Demands:

The position is confined to their work station.  There is repetitive movement when inputting the information into the accounting software.   There are many distractions but they are cyclical depending on the term and when in the term.  High distractions in September/January, low in December and August and April.  Attention to detail in accounting and cash transactions is needed.  Limited lifting required.

Working Environment:

This is an office based position within a dynamic student environment with student management changing annually with changing goals and strategies implemented each year.
