The position requires professional expertise in business communication and project management and specific knowledge of the business sustainability and economic development communities. Working in a highly collaborative environment, the individual will work closely with faculty and staff in SEED and the Faculty of Environment, as well as with the broader campus community (co-op office, student recruitment, communications, research office, alumni affairs and development). This position requires proactive leadership skills and outstanding communications and interpersonal skills. The overall objective of this position will be to ensure the employment-readiness of students through experiential learning and development relationships with external stakeholders to promote the interests of SEED students and SEED activities.

Nature and Scope

Among other programs, SEED offers a cooperative education, undergraduate program in environment and business, and graduate programs in environment and business and local economic development. The undergraduate program in environment and business has been ranked (by Corporate Knights Magazine) as the top undergraduate program in its field in Canada for the past four years. This program has grown significantly over the pat five years and now has over 550 students, including a significant number of international students. SEED also offers a Master of Environment and Business program and a Masters degree in local economic development to address the needs of early and mid-career professionals in these rapidly evolving fields. SEED will also be commencing a research degree in sustainability management in 2013.

Central to the environment and business programs are project-based courses where student teams develop and implement projects for clients in the private, not-for-profit and public sectors. SEED also has experiential learning components through co-op placements, and internships. In order to support and further these programs the primary objective of this position is identifying, attracting and developing project opportunities for students with external partners, identifying and attracting co-op employment and internship opportunities, and to develop in-class and extra-curricular programs aimed at developing employment skills in SEED students.

A secondary objective of the position is to broaden the relationship between SEED and its external stakeholders (industry, government, not-for-profit, research partners and alumni) and to foster meaningful interactions that will lead to collaborative research projects, public engagement, experiential learning links and graduate recruitment opportunities. It is expected that the incumbent would also support student recruitment and marketing activities.
