Primary Purpose
The Knowledge Mobilization (KM) Manager plays a strategic professional role in leading to ensure accessible and effective knowledge mobilization about social innovation. This KM Manager collaborates with the Chair in Social Innovation, the Associate Director and the SiG@Waterloo research team as well as the Education Programs Manager to actively explore or create live and online knowledge transfer/exchange and professional development opportunities. This position requires in-depth knowledge of concepts such as systems, complexity and resilience, understanding and experience with education initiatives, ability to work in a high functioning work environment with multiple demands and changing priorities, a keen interest in continuous learning and dissemination, experience identifying innovative solutions to complex problems, outstanding capacity for partnership development and strong skills related to real and virtual communication and evaluation. Key objectives focus upon significantly developing and coordinating design, delivery and assessment of knowledge mobilization strategies to enhance understanding and build capacity for systems approaches and complex problem solving within audiences, which include:
- professionals working toward social system change and consultants who support these
- policy makers at various levels of government
- foundations, governments and other funding organizations
- youth and organizations that work for/with youth
The KM Manager will work with SiG staff, students, faculty, other internal UW staff as well as various external partners to support the delivery and ongoing development for and across these key SiG@Waterloo and/or SiG partnership initiatives:
- Graduate Diploma in Social Innovation
- Watershed Initiative (advanced professional development)
- WISIR research and publications
- Regional Youth and Resilience Initiative
- Innoweave (with McConnell)
- SiG 2.0 (knowledge mobilization for SI with all SiG national partners)
Key Accountabilities:
Participates in strategic planning for KM plans within/across SiG@Waterloo initiatives and in collaboration with the national SiG partnership
- Participates in SiG weekly (Waterloo) and quarterly (National) meetings to keep abreast of KM resources and needs and keep the SiG Principals informed on KM matters
- Participates in the development of long term vision, planning, strategy design
- mplements and evaluates the annual unit and SiG partnership plans and priorities for KM
Responsible for the implementation and achievement of Annual KM Plans.
- Ensures the unit’s and partnership’s Annual Plans are delivered efficiently, highly effectively and on time
- Develops, monitors and adheres to the annual KM budget.
Ensures the collaborative delivery of KM resources to identified strategic audiences to:
- Share knowledge about social innovation from a whole systems perspective
- Provide real world examples and cases of social innovation in Canada
- Encourage skill-building and action that incorporates new tools and processes for social innovation
- Support the creation on vibrant networks within and across sectors to support social innovation
Oversees all communications promoting KM resources at SiG@Waterloo, as well as contributing to the national communications plan for SiG KM, including, but not limited to:
- Supervising staff to produce monthly E-Newsletter and collaborates on SiG national communications
- Websites: ensures the relevancy and accuracy of the Waterloo sites and collaborates with the National
- Brochures: collaborates to develop hardcopy materials to serve as our KM overview and intro
- ser Surveys; develops and ensures delivery of timely utilization focused evaluation processes
Ensures an effective utilization-focused evaluation plan is implemented, shared and used:
- Oversees evaluation staff to most productively meet evaluation goals and objectives
- Coaches, trains and develops evaluation staff to assure growth and development of those individuals
- Leads to disseminate regular assessments of accessibility, usefulness, and impact of KM resources
Represents Senior SiG@Waterloo and SiG National leaders;
- Liaises externally with professional, community and government organizations, and agencies on behalf of the organization through oral presentations, meetings and teleconferences
- Leads cross-sector meetings and design sessions
- Supports, communicates, and reinforces the mission, values, philosophy, and culture of the SiG national partnership as it relates to knowledge mobilization and partnership development
- Writes and prepares reports to be shared with internal and external stakeholders on highly specialized material pertaining to the Knowledge Mobilzation initiative

Position Requirements
Education:
Education: Completion of a Bachelor’s degree with 2 years experience or 5-7 years related professional experience is required. Graduate degree is preferred; would be an academic area related to leadership, innovation, education, community development, organizational development and/or social change.
Experience:
Experience: Professional experience in both a university setting and within other sectors is a definite asset; especially with adult learning, meeting facilitation, cross-sector communication, collaborative program development, professional event coordination, and evaluation processes

Nature and Scope
Interpersonal Skills:
- Interpersonal Contacts: Internally, communicates with individuals and administrators across numerous units and departments (CEL, CTE, Environment, Arts, Conrad Grebel, Applied Health). Externally, this position will have responsibility to represent SiG@Waterloo and the University of Waterloo by collaborating with significant senior leaders in the SiG partnership, at Foundations (Canadian Foundations Canada, McConnell Foundation), Executive Directors of large Canadian organizations (Tamarack, ALIA, PLAN, UNITED WAY) and will be involved in collaborative and programmatic matters that are critical to the organization.
Level of Responsibility:
- Level of Responsibility: The position is responsible and accountable for the overall results of the SiG@Waterloo Knowledge Mobilization initiative.
Decision-Making Authority:
- Decision-Making Authority: Responsible and accountable for interpreting and acting on the priorities for the unit. Works in consultation with the Chair and the Associate Director on reviewing and revising this strategic plan and in allocating funds.
