Phytoremediation Technician

General Accountability

As a phytoremediation scientist, the incumbent will work in the laboratory of Dr. Bruce Greenberg, Dept of Biology. He/She will report directly to Bruce Greenberg. He/she will be responsible for several phytoremediation project and all aspects of those projects. This includes seed preparation, soil sampling, plant sampling, soil chemical analysis, seeding phytoremediation sites in BC, AB, SK and ON, following the progress of phytoremediation in the field, and preparing reports on the results of phytoremediation projects. The incumbent will interact with other phytoremediation scientists in Dr. Greenberg’s lab.

Nature and Scope

The incumbent will work within the phytoremediation group in Dr. Greenberg’s lab. He/she will deal with several on-going remediation projects at one time and will be responsible for generating reports on several projects each year. The incumbent will be required to go to the field in BC, AB, SK and ON to carry out phytoremediation projects and must be able to work with our partners at those sites. He/she must be able to perform the lab and field work associated with these projects.

Specific Accountabilities

The incumbent will be responsible to Dr. Greenberg. He/She will be responsible for efficient operation of the projects he/she works on. He/she will be responsible to work safely in the field and lab, and to assist in the maintenance of the lab. He/she will be responsible for careful collection of field samples, accurate reporting of lab data, entry of the data into the computer, maintenance of the data in the computer and generation of written reports from the data.

Working Conditions

The incumbent will perform work both in the field and the lab. A desk and computer in our office area will be provided. Appropriate lab space and equipment will be provided. For field work, travel will be arranged at a time mutually agreeable to the employer and the employee. As appropriate, hotel accommodations will be supplied for all field work. Air travel will be tourist/economy class. Appropriate vehicles will be rented for ground transportation. All travel costs will be paid by Dr. Greenberg through grant or contracts.
