Senior Demonstrator

General Accountability

Provide instructional support primarily in first and second year chemical engineering courses and provide one-on-one tutoring help.  Marking of midterms, final exams and reports.  The incumbent will report to the Chair of the Chemical Engineering Department.

Nature and Scope

The incumbent is expected to have excellent lecturing and tutoring skill, be able to help and interact with first and second year students, have excellent people skills and be interested in the overall welfare of undergraduate students.  The senior demonstrator will be involved in marking exams, midterms and work-term reports.

Please note that there is an expected growth in faculty, staff and undergraduate student population due to our satellite program in Abu Dhabi of an additional 11 faculty, 2 staff and 200 students. The undergraduate program in Abu Dhabi will start in September 2009.

Specific Accountabilities

The Senior Demonstrator works on their own initiative with minimal daily supervision and report to Chair.

Excellent knowledge of first and second year chemical engineering courses and curriculum.

Provide one-on-one tutoring to students during office hours and by appointment.

Marking of midterms, exams and reports.

Participation in scholarship of teaching and learning, outreach activities (Explorations, University Fair, etc.) and ExpecTAtions.

Continuous development and review of the educational goals and outcomes in assigned courses.  Works to improve the quality of the educational experience.

The incumbent must be eligible for Professional Engineering licensure and must pursue expediently and maintain Professional Engineering licensure in the Province of Ontario.
