General Accountability
Reporting to the Manager, Federation Hall, the Assistant Manager, Federation Hall is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of Federation Hall and acting as a member of the management team for Federation Hall. Federation Hall is a licensed multi-use facility with a maximum capacity of 1074 people, including patios. The facility has stand-alone food service capabilities to serve a multitude of catering menus, serving up to 400 guests.
Nature and Scope

The incumbent will direct the work of approximately 50 part-time hourly paid staff.
Total food and beverage sales of Federation Hall are estimated to be $750,000 per year.
Specific Accountabilities
The incumbent will assist the Manager with the following job responsibilities:
- As a member of the University of Waterloo Bar Directorate, the incumbent will implement and enforce the established operating policies and practices consistent with provisions of the Liquor License Act of Ontario, Federation of Students Policies and Procedures and University Policies and Procedures.
Under the direction of the Federation Hall Manager the incumbent will:
- Participate in the hiring, training and motivation of all part-time staff.
- Establish work schedules and operate suitable training programs for staff to ensure an organized level of service, staffed by well-motivated employees, which are necessary to ensure maximum efficiency of operation.
- Be responsible for attaining reasonable labour cost levels at all Federation Hall functions. This will be accomplished through efficient scheduling, monitoring staffing levels, and regular labour analysis.
- Regulate the part-time staff payroll, making appropriate daily adjustments if necessary.
- Ensure compliance with respect to the to Occupation Health & Safety Act, Health Protection and Promotion Act, Liquor License Act of Ontario, WHMIS, and all related regulatory acts.
- Conduct a full physical count inventory at least monthly, or more frequently as required.
- Responsible for supply ordering (beer, liquor, bar supplies, etc), inventory control, cash controls, and security of all storage and servery areas. Supervise the receipt, storage, and distribution of all ordered supplies while ensuring proper turnover of food and materials minimizing waste and spoilage.
- Prepare the daily sales deposit and compare this with the sales summary. Make note of any variance, taking corrective action as advised.
- Actively assist in marketing the facility for conferences, social events and other uses to groups on and off campus. Meet with clients to determine needs for beverage service, catering, etc, and coordinate the provision of these services.
- Purchase all required supplies and small-wares from approved suppliers.
- Ensure that all staff are Smart Serve trained and certified.
- Assume some duties of the Federation Hall Manager in his/her absence
Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Work a varied schedule with frequent long days, and work evenings, weekends and some holidays as required.
