Primary Purpose

This position is responsible for support of users and services and maintenance of the Information and Technology systems of the Federation of Students.  This position provides active support in maintaining existing systems and active assistance in developing over 20 Windows Servers, 15 Linux Servers, 50 workstations, multifunction and network printers and point of sale systems.

Key Accountabilities:

1. 

End-user and help desk support:

  • Assume responsibility for user support:  assistance and communication
  • Take leadership role in the investigation and development of specific client services
  • Perform root cause analysis in complex areas to improve user experience with application software and systems
  • Coordinate, assign and follow-up on all client initiated service requests
  • Troubleshoot and support various software applications and hardware

2. 

Server and Workstation configuration, setup, deployment and maintenance.

  • Proficient in OS configuration and troubleshooting:  assessing and diagnosing of server and desktop OS
  • Proficient using, configuring and diagnosing problems with all of the common desktop and office applications
  • Proficient in primary PC environment and familiarity with other supported environments
  • Excellent knowledge of both Windows and Linux servers deployment, troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Support and administration for Active Directory, DNS, Mail, Web and Database application servers
  • Proficient in desktop application environments:  deploying, configuration and troubleshooting

Network Security:

  • Ensure confidentiality, integrity, and authorization to protect sensitive data and information
  • Address potential security risks and mitigate security issues
  • Assess and test server and network security
  • Ensure security policy implementation for both clients and systems
  • Proactive monitoring of services, systems and sensitive data

4. 

Backup support and maintenance

  • Ensure business continuity and availability of data and services
  • Configure, deploy and setup Backup infrastructure and systems
  • Implementation and testing of Disaster Recovery procedures and policies
  • On-site and Off-Site backup administration and maintenance

5. 

Training and communication

  • Ability to communicate with clarity and effectiveness
  • Train clients in using application and desktop software
  • Write and keep up-to-date technical documentation, walkthroughs and tutorials
  • Provide effective consulting assistance in a broader range of problems

Position Requirements

Education:

Completion of a Bachelor’s degree, Advanced Diploma and/or equivalent work experience.

Experience:

1-3 years of progressive business experience with a proven track record of achievement and success within an Information Technology role

Basic Basic Basic Proven competency with the technologies and responsibilities listed under Key Accountabilities

Nature and Scope

Interpersonal Skills:

Internally, communicates with all employees in all groups and departments and at all levels to deal with technical issues.  Externally, this position will have occasional contact with customers and suppliers and will be involved in setting highly sensitive, confidential matters that are critical to the organization.

Level of Responsibility:

This position requires exposure to, and occasionally processing confidential information.

Decision-Making Authority:

Responsible for evaluating and implementing new technology within assigned projects.

Physical and Sensory Demands:

Minimal demands typical of an IT Administrator position operating within an office environment.  Occasional lifting of heavy equipment.

Working Environment:

Minimal exposure to disagreeable conditions typical of an IT Administrator exposed to stress and pressure associated with a support role.  Normally, the IT Administrator carries out all responsibilities during regular business hours.  However, the IT Administrator must occasionally work outside of regular business hours to direct the introduction of new technology into the production environment, and might infrequently be called upon to work outside of regular business hours if emergency conditions warrant.
