Social Innovation Generation (SiG), designed as a national consortium, is dedicated to facilitating broad social change in Canada under the leadership of the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation in Montreal, the University of Waterloo, PLAN Institute for Caring Citizenship in Vancouver, and MaRS Discovery District in Toronto.The Associate Director of Partnerships and Programs for SiG@Waterloo plays an integral role as a professional partner to the McConnell Chair in Social Innovation at the University of Waterloo, and within the national SiG consortium. The Associate Director is responsible for helping to establish strategic direction institutionally, regionally and nationally, and for providing leadership at Waterloo for human and financial management, partnership development and program creation and implementation, in order to successfully and creatively achieve established goals. Key objectives are related to design and delivery of curriculum programs aimed at strengthening the capacity for social innovation in Canada, and to develop new methodologies and structures through which to engage researchers and practitioners across the country to find and test innovative solutions to social problems.
The Social Innovation Generation unit at the University of Waterloo (SiG@Waterloo) is a dynamic environment characterized by emergence, rapid change, innovation, and high levels of multiple cross-sector/discipline stakeholder interactions. The Associate Director reports directly to the Chair in Social Innovation and acts with significant independence to support all of SiG@Waterloo’s program goals. A primary role of this position is in advancing understanding and practice of social innovation, by acting as a spokesperson and educator in this area through participation in multiple, diverse University of Waterloo, inter-institutional, local community, and national partnership committees for the purpose of supporting SiG program development. Additionally, the Associate Director oversees a team of staff persons, acting as their direct supervisor and their liaison with the Chair. As such, the Associate Director ensures a highly effective office environment and additionally, manages the unit budget, and acts as the chief administrative liaison with the University of Waterloo and with the external funder, the J.W.McConnell Family Foundation.
