Reports to: Scientific Director, CCEC

General Accountability

The Manager of CCEC manages the Centre for Control of Emerging Contaminants that is a multi-institutional organization including members from the University of Waterloo, University of Guelph, University of Toronto, Wilfrid Laurier University and Trent University.  The over-riding objective is to manage, promote and increase the base of research activity and funding in the area of emerging contaminants (ECs) including technology and policy development.

The Manager will be responsible for the following key functions: 1.) working with CCEC members, directors and advisory board to advance the overall goals of the CCEC; 2.) ensuring the efficient and effective operational performance of the Centre; 3.) ensuring the timely and accurate reporting of research projects within the Centre to the appropriate agencies; 4.) managing proposal development, budgeting, and financial activities associated with CCEC research projects; 5.) creating and implementing a plan for promotion of CCEC research activities; 6.) creating new contacts and building relationships with potential partners.

Nature and Scope

The CCEC is a multi-disciplinary group of leading researchers in the area of control of emerging contaminants with 15 members from the University of Waterloo, University of Guelph, University of Toronto, Wilfrid Laurier University and Trent University.  Researchers from Engineering, Chemistry, Biology and Earth Sciences are working to evaluate, develop and test new technologies to better control ECs, improve existing technologies for removal of ECs, develop analytical technologies for measuring/monitoring ECs in complex streams, contribute, through research, to the development of sound science-based policy to control ECs, evaluate the impact of ECs on surface and groundwater systems, improve our understanding of the effects of a wide range of ECs in water systems, act as a forum that brings together researchers, technology implementers and regulators.

The current funding for the CCEC is approximately 4.8 million dollars over a period of five years from the Ontario Research Fund and approximately 9.6 million dollars of matching funding from the partner universities, private and government sectors.  The matching funding represents a mixture of cash and in-kind contributions of time and equipment.   The Manager of the CCEC will be responsible for reporting on this funding and any additional funding that is generated over time.

The Manager of CCEC reports directly to the Scientific Director of CCEC.
