Supervisor, Student Accounts

General Accountability

The Supervisor, Student Accounts is accountable to the Manager, Student Financials for supervising the business activity of Finance - Student Accounts, specifically the Student Accounts Assistants (4) & Student Accounts Specialist (1). In this capacity, the incumbent possesses a thorough understanding of the student account and related financial procedures as well as providing a customer support role.

Nature and Scope

Positions reporting to the Supervisor, Student Accounts include:

Student Accounts is responsible for the accurate assessment, billing and collection of all tuition, housing and related student fees. The incumbent possesses a thorough understanding of the student financial account and the underlying software application.

The Supervisor, Student Accounts is responsible for creating a friendly, efficient and student oriented customer service environment and to be sensitive to student needs.  The incumbent provides supervision to a staff of four that are involved in customer account maintenance and front line customer service in a high volume work environment. 

Students’ accounts are managed through the Student Financials module, part of a much larger Peoplesoft Student Information System.  The incumbent maintains adequate internal control procedures over student account payments for tuition, residence, and incidental fees and applies generally accepted accounting principles to the recording and reporting of student payments and related accounts receivable.  He/she implements process improvements, where practicable and workable, to maintain an efficient operation and streamline internal business practices.

The incumbent will provide cross functional support for the Student Account Systems Specialist.  The Student Account Systems Specialist is accountable for the accurate calculation of tuition and incidental fees.  The Supervisor has a thorough understanding of the student account assessment infrastructure to ensure that tuition is accurately assessed. 

He/she participates in testing during upgrades and system development as required. 

The Peoplesoft Student Information System tracks all academic and financial information about students from admissions to billings and regular upgrades and maintenance are required.  Building productive working relationships with Registrars Office, Graduate Studies Office and IST is critical to the successful integration and maintenance of this large cross-functional system.

Strong communication skills are essential as the incumbent communicates with students, faculty, staff and sponsoring agencies in resolving issues.
