Clerical Assistant

General Accountability

TThe Clerical Assistant reports to the Research Director of the Waterloo Centre for Atmospheric Sciences and is responsible for providing clerical support.

Nature and Scope

The Clerical Assistant provides clerical support as needed to the Centre’s Research Director, including scheduling and organizing meetings; word processing and formatting for research publications and proposals. He/She will also assist the Research Director and the Centre’s research staff with transcription of data and text into presentation-ready form for publications and presentations and with the coordination and submission of research proposals.  These duties will require the understanding and use of the menu functions in common office software including Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft WORD, Microsoft EXCEL and Microsoft POWERPOINT or their equivalents.

The Clerical Assistant will also take messages, communicate information to other university units and coordinate group activities under the direct instruction of the Research Director..  S/He will also prepare travel claims and other general reimbursement forms and maintain information on available housing and other general information as requested for the use of new group members.

Also reporting to the Research Director is the Centre’s System Administrator, Laboratory Technician and its research complement, consisting of Post Doctoral Fellows, Research Associates, Undergraduate and Graduate students.

The Waterloo Centre for Atmospheric Sciences is a research Centre at the University of Waterloo whose primary focus is on the study and analysis of atmospheric pollution, its sources, and its scope. 

Statistics The Centre employs approximately 25 research and support staff.
