General Accountability

Reporting to Dr. David Blowes, Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences and Canada Research Chair in Groundwater Remediation, the candidate will provide technical expertise in research projects related to the behaviour, fate and remediation of metal and other inorganic constituents of groundwater and surface water.  In the Department of Earth Sciences, the research will be undertaken under the direction of Dr. David Blowes, and involve interaction with two other faculty members, five research associates, and as many as seven graduate students.

The candidate will independently resolve problems relating to the preparation and implementation of research projects; monitoring and sampling; operation and maintenance of analytical instruments, and reporting. Although most of the research will be undertaken in the laboratory, this will be occasional need to participate in field-related research. Supervision of projects will be required, this will involve preparation for experimental work, and supervision of staff and students during the implementation of projects.

Interact on projects with 3 faculty members, 5 research scientist and graduate students.

Projects: proposals (occasionally), planning schedules, sampling and monitoring, analyses (in-house-specific skills), interface with external research and commercial laboratories.

The budget related to the behavior, fate and remediation of inorganic contaminants in groundwater and aquatic ecosystems is more than $ 1 million per year.

The value of the equipment in place is $ 200,000 and more than $ 1 million worth of equipment and expanded laboratory facilities is being added

There are as many as 10 active projects per year.
