General Accountability

Accountable to the General Merchandise Manager for effective sales, promotion, inventory control and assists with all aspects of retail functions in Write Stuff.

Nature and Scope

Organizational Relationships:

The incumbent reports to the General Merchandise Manager. The General Merchandise Manager is responsible for the business operations of Write Stuff and the Waterloo Store in South Campus Hall.  The manager reports to Director, Retail Services. The incumbent will work a regular schedule of 35 hours per week, Saturdays on a rotational basis, and will be required to work extended hours during RUSH periods.

Specific Accountabilities

  1. Accountable for the daily transactions, inquiries, special orders and providing excellent customer service.  The incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of specific product categories such as computer supplies, electronics, and architectural/planning supplies.
  2. Accountable for POS transactions including department charges, refunds and mail-outs on campus.  The incumbent approves the part-time staff price overrides, refunds or void transactions.  The incumbent is responsible for the cash float and reports any discrepancies to the Accounting Department. 
  3. Accountable for inventory control, merchandising and stock fulfillment;  maintains appropriate stock levels in the sales area and ensures out-of-stock levels are kept to a minimum on high inventory turnover products.  The incumbent assists the manager with inventory management, stock reorders, defective merchandise returns and requests for returns permission.  The incumbent has access to Ratex for data entry, purchase orders, chargeback generations, transfer of goods between RS stores, and looking up stock information.
  4. Accountable for consulting with the Computer Store on special hardware, software, computer peripherals and electronic requests.  The incumbent refers customers for technical repairs and support to the Computer Store technician.  The General Merchandise Manager will advise the incumbent of new product developments and is expected to attend product demos, trade shows as required.
  5. Accountable for merchandising, displays and promotional and seasonal features in the store.  The incumbent is expected to maintain the stock on hand and sales area neatly and organized.  During RUSH periods, the incumbent maintains supplies inventory in the Bookstore.
  6. Accountable for replenishing and reordering Retail Services store-use supplies including forms and envelopes from Central Stores. 
  7. Accountable for assisting with year-end inventory count and accurate count results.
