Marketing Coordinator

General Accountability

The Marketing Coordinator is accountable to the Director of Retail Services for development, implementation, and management of Retail Services marketing and communication strategies. The incumbent is responsible for quantifying marketing efforts and results to ensure Retail Services objectives and goals are achieved.

Nature and Scope

This position reports to the Director, Retail Services and the incumbent is a member of the Retail Services management team that identifies opportunities for new academic services, support and continual improvement that impact teaching , learning and student success.   Retail Services business units are comprised of the Book Store, CampusTech, ESmart, Waterloo Store, Write Stuff and New Media Services.  The department is an ancillary operation that must maintain financial viability while delivering the highest quality customer service and meeting customer expectations for technology enhanced services.

The Marketing Coordinator supervises two Co-op students each academic term and is responsible for the hiring process and performance evaluation for the individuals.  The incumbent delegates and manages the co-op student’s work assignment and provides training as required.

The incumbent plays a critical role in the Retail Services management team and functions as a team player to achieve the overall department goals. The Marketing Coordinator must be a strategic thinker, utilizing technology resources, identifying new marketing opportunities including but not limited to the ecommerce market, and developing marketing revenues forcost recovery. The incumbent works closely with the Retail Services IT staff to provide content and timely updates for the Retail Services website and digital display network.

The Marketing Coordinator will assist the Director of Retail Services with campus relations by attending campus meetings, working with campus committees as required and sending communications to the campus departments. Within Retail Services, the incumbent will assist with staff communication and presentations.

The incumbent must thrive in meeting project timelines, the short turn around time and frequency of marketing promotions in the technology category, and working within a diverse campus environment. Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage people’s expectations are key attributes for this position to ensure success.
