Buying and Marketing Cordinator

General Accountability

The incumbent is accountable to the General Merchandise Manager for the daily sales operations, achieving profitable sales objectives, excellent customer service and customer service relations management for the UWShop.

Nature and Scope

Organizational Relationships:

The incumbent reports to the General Merchandise Manager.  The Manager reports to the Director of Retail Services.

The incumbent will work a regular schedule of 35 hours per week, Saturdays on a rotational basis, and will be required to work extended hours during RUSH periods and convocation.

The incumbent will purchase all non-apparel goods for the UWShop (retail items and custom orders) in a timely and cost effective manner. The incumbent will develop marketing strategies and plans, in conjunction with the General Merchandise Manager and the Marketing Manager, for all non-apparel items.

The incumbent will co-ordinate all activities related to Retail Services for Convocation

Specific Accountabilities

  1. Accountable for the Special Orders Program of customized imprint products. The incumbent meets with on campus clients, providing quotes, product availability, or options available.   Researches product information through vendor contacts and recommends alternative solutions when appropriate.
  2. The incumbent establishes on-going communication with Departments, Residence Dons, and Student Organizations.
  3. Accountable for cost effective order quantities when ordering stock for resale.   This requires sales analysis, understanding market demand and applying effective buying decisions.
  4. Accountable for processing timely charge backs/returns on defective merchandise to the appropriate vendors.
  5. Accountable for accurate and detailed explanations for special orders such as jackets, rings and other specialty orders.
  6. Accountable for co-coordinating all Convocation related services including flower bouquet sales, UW ring sales, and hood/gown rentals and purchases.
  7. Accountable for meeting with Registrar to ensure all requirements are fulfilled.
  8. Accountable for inventory management of faculty hoods, replenishing stock (if required) prior to each convocation.
  9. Accountable for assisting with services in the PAC during Convocation week.
