Operations Administrator, Retail Services

General Accountability

The Operations Administrator, Retail Services is accountable to the Director, Retail Services for the retail management of information systems and technical infrastructure for all areas of Retail Services, New Media Services print production, copy centres and the Retail Services Shipping/Receiving department.   The incumbent contributes to the organization’s strategic business development, overall leadership for new business implementation, strategic planning, and special projects.

Nature and Scope

This position is one of several management roles, which make up the business management team of Retail Services.

Retail Services is an ancillary operation that must generate its own income and maintain fiscal viability.  The department must deliver the highest quality customer service, products and services that will enhance student success and support the university mission.

Retail Services business units are comprised of the Book Store, Campus Tech Shop, Waterloo Store, Write Stuff, WatCard, and New Media Services.  New Media Services operations include Digital Print Production, Fleet and Departmental Copiers, and four Media.doc copy centre operations.

The incumbent works collaboratively with the business unit managers, accounting manager, and marketing co-ordinator on issues that impact the department’s financial goals, business performance, and best practices.  These include but are not limited to strategic directions, financial planning for resource allocation, marketing and communication strategies, and new business opportunity initiatives. The Operations Administrator must have excellent interpersonal skills, be aware of university-wide initiatives which will impact Retail Services operations, and be able to interact well with a variety of people from inside and outside the university.

Reporting to the Operations Administrator are the IT Information Specialist, Retail Services Shipping/Receiving Manager, Digital Production Manager, Media.doc MC Technician, and Media.doc MC Sales and Service Associate.

The Operations Administrator, Retail Services, is responsible for contributing to the fiscal viability of the department and is accountable for supporting the financial goals, and annual budget of the department.  The incumbent is responsible for the following revenue and expense budgets.
