General Accountability

The Systems Administrator is accountable to the Manager, Client Services for the safekeeping of financial data in the Oracle Financial System and for providing secure access to Cognos decision support tools (Impromptu and Powerplay), through security administration, access control and establishment of user profiles and responsibilities. The incumbent also assists with the identification and logging of system bugs and testing of solutions. As a member of the month end team, the System Administrator helps with the co-ordination of all month end activities.

Nature and Scope

The System Administrator provides support to both core and end users of the Oracle Financial System. The incumbent must maintain a good working relationship with other Finance staff and University department system users. Understanding the different functional area responsibilities and related system requirements is fundamental to the Systems Administrator’s role. Quick resolution of problems and prompt progress and status reports is indicative of the quality service he/she must provide. The ongoing upgrade and development of the Oracle Financial System requires the Systems Administrator to develop and maintain an open communication line between IST and Oracle for the continued technical support required for the system.

Specific Accountabilities

User administration; register users, assign responsibilities and passwords
Security administration; maintain responsibilities, menus, report groups, security rules and user classes
User profile administration; maintain values, applications, responsibilities and user levels Administration of application support; maintain application printers, PC’s, netterm software, and all test and production environments
Administration and review of audit data
Log system bugs and assist with resolution of same
Support new applications, systems and decision support tools; ongoing participation in the functional development and upgrade of the Oracle Financial System
Administration of concurrent processing and maintain the concurrent processing environment; scheduling and importing of subsystem transactions
Member of month end team and assist with the co-ordination of all month end activities
Communicate to core and end users regarding system matters through maintenance of email address “FSP-update”
