General Accountability

The incumbent is accountable to the General Merchandise Manager for effective day-to-day operations in the Waterloo Store, Write Stuff and for the provision of regalia services for the University of Waterloo Convocation ceremonies.  The incumbent ensures support for achieving budget targets, operational efficiencies and Retail Services commitment to provide the highest quality customer service.

 

Nature and Scope

Retail Services business units are comprised of the Book Store, Campus Tech, E Smart, Waterloo Store, Write Stuff, and New Media Services.  The department is an ancillary operation providing academic support for course materials, uWaterloo branded products, technology products/services, printing services and fleet copier service.  

Waterloo Store and Write Stuff  are managed by the General Merchandise manager.  In addition to the incumbent, the Retail Procurement Co-ordinator reports to the manager.

The incumbent supervises one full-time staff, Customer Service Assistant, and 3 to 5 part-time casual staff in store.  During Convocation, the incumbent may supervise up to 10 part-time staff.

The incumbent works collaboratively with the General Merchandise team assisting with inventory management, merchandising, marketing, and all aspects of retail operations under the direction of the General Merchandise manager.  This position requires understanding of the business unit’s operational calendar, thorough knowledge of the products/services including custom orders, and analyzing situations to determine appropriate action. 

Oversight of the  regalia services for uWaterloo convocation ceremonies,  is an important aspect of the incumbent’s responsibilities.  The largest ceremony is held in the Spring over four days with two ceremonies per day.  The  Fall convocation ceremony  is held over two days with two ceremonies per day.  The incumbent is responsible for scheduling and training of part time staff,  planning and co-ordination with the Registrar, Retail Services departments, and Central Stores for operational setup of  regalia services in the Physical Activities Complex.

The incumbent must develop and maintain positive working relations with co-workers, faculty, staff and students.  The incumbent must possess excellent organizational skills and communication skills.

Working Conditions

Incumbent may work extended hours as scheduled by the manager.  This includes but is not limited to Saturdays, evening hours, Labour Day weekend or special events.
