General Accountability

The Retail Procurement Co-ordinator is accountable to the General Merchandise Manager for  oversight of retail merchandise buying, effective category turnover and individual product sales for the uWaterloo campus.  The incumbent will ensure the buying, supply management and category product development will meet budget targets and support Retail Services commitment to provide the highest quality customer service.

Nature and Scope

Retail Services business units are comprised of the Book Store, Campus Tech, E Smart, Waterloo Store, Write Stuff, and New Media Services.   The department is an ancillary operation providing academic support for course materials, uWaterloo brand products, technology products/services, printing services and fleet copier service.    Retail Services is an ancillary operation that must generate its own income and maintain fiscal viability.  Our goal is to deliver the highest quality customer service, provide products and services that not only meet the campus community needs but also to enhance student success and support the university’s mission

The Waterloo Store and Write Stuff stores are managed by the General Merchandise manager.  In addition to the incumbent, the General Merchandise Co-ordinator reports to the manager.

The incumbent works under the supervision of the General Merchandise Manager to achieve the budget goals, sales forecast, and positive retail metrics performance.  The incumbent collaborates with the Retail Services Marketing Co-ordinator to plan sales promotions, advertising campaigns, special events, or other promotional activity that are beneficial to our  campus customers.   

The Retail Procurement Co-ordinator supervises two full-time staff – General Merchandise Buyer and Buying Assistant.

The incumbent keeps up to date on market trends appropriate for  the uWaterloo campus.  The products and services must meet the needs of our campus customers including but not limited to price, quality, and delivery terms.   The  uWaterloo product or service procurement life cycle includes appropriate application of the University’s wordmarks, logos, and colour palette outlined in the uWaterloo branding guidelines

The incumbent  works collaboratively with the General Merchandise team to implement effective inventory management, merchandising, and customer service on the selling floor and observe customer preferences for future sourcing decisions..  The incumbent must have the ability to source merchandise that will sell at profitable margins.

Incumbent may work extended hours as scheduled by the manager.  This includes but is not limited to Saturdays, evening hours, Labour Day weekend or special events.
