Primary Purpose

The Assistant HR Director, Operations leads and directs all activities related to HR Operations (HR administration, Domestic and International Payroll, HRMS and special projects) based on the creation of and in accordance with  established guidelines and sound administrative processes.   The role is accountable for ensuring day-to-day services operate in support of overall HR operational objectives. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that the HR Operations team provides accurate, timely and efficient HR support to all client groups across campus.

Position Requirements

Education:

University undergraduate degree combined with PMP, CSSGB certification or equivalent experience.

Experience:

7-10 years of progressive experience within a complex HR operation.  Must have a good understanding of payroll best practices, enterprise HRMS systems, HR service delivery administration principles, vendor management, change management and project management methodologies and process re-engineering principles.  

 

Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with a continuous improvement mind-set is critical for success.

 

Experience in diagnosing, isolating and resolving complex issues and processes and recommending strategies / projects to resolve problems.

 

-Experience in creating, defining and reporting on project plans, project status to appropriate stakeholders, sponsors, committees and executives

Technical:

MS Word Excel PowerPoint Other
Advanced Advanced Intermediate Visio, PeopleSoft HRMS, Business process mapping (value stream mapping), TQM, Lean and/or six sigma process analysis, project management methodology, financial and data analysis acumen. Strong knowledge of operational best practices

Nature and Scope

Interpersonal Skills:

Internally, communicates with senior leadership and other senior employees across all areas (Faculty, Staff, CUPE) to deal with an resolve issues related to area of responsibility.  Individual must be able to influence and motivate stakeholders on issues that could impact the entire organization.  Externally, this position will have significant contacts with government bodies, Auditors (internal and external) and third party suppliers to research and resolve issues related to service delivery standards. 

Level of Responsibility:

The position is responsible and accountable for the results of the HR Operations team and is accountable and responsible for meeting the relevant objectives.  The position is also expected to be forward looking, aware of trends and bring innovative and creative concepts, opportunities and recommendations to the Human Resource Director. The position is also responsible for providing project leadership to issues that are institutional wide.

Decision-Making Authority:

Responsible and accountable for executing the HR priorities for the HR Operations area and addressing changes to plans by consulting directly with the HR Director.

Physical and Sensory Demands:

Minimal demands typical of a leadership position operating within an office environment.

Working Environment:

Minimal exposure to disagreeable conditions typical of a leadership position exposed to stress and pressure associated with senior level responsibilities.
